  • Racial Harmony Day 2008

Well, it's been a month and 3 days since Hubbie has gone home to Canada before i join him... about 7 months from now. It hasn't been an easy month and the last week was bad because i had a bad case of food poisoning. On top of that i had really bad menstrual camps that made me feel like i was in early stages of labour contractions. When the cramps come all i can do is stop whatever i was doing and just breathe. It started getting real bad on Tuesday and i went to bed early even though Hubbie was online. The next morning i got a call from him checking up on me but i missed his call  because it was pouring cats and dog while i was heading to work. I heard the voicemail he left when i got to the bus stop and literally teared up because it was the first time i heard from him on the phone in nearly a month. We chat online almost everyday but it's not the same as hearing his voice over the phone. Plus, i was angry at myself for missing the call.

So yeah... went to see the doctor (finally) yesterday and i am definitely feeling alot better this weekend, no more running to the toilet everytime i have something to eat.

    The cause of food poisoning...
    Racial Harmony Day.

"Schools commemorate Racial Harmony Day on 21st July. On this day in
1964, Singapore saw racial riots. Racial Harmony Day serves to remind
our pupils that social division costs us dearly and that race and
religion are potential fault-lines in Singapore society. It is a day
for schools to reflect on, and celebrate our success as a harmonious
nation and society built on a rich diversity of cultures and heritages."

We sent out a notice to the parents and encouraged them to bring in traditional food and snacks so that the children will be able to share and be exposed to the different treats from the different racial groups. So i am guessing my food poisoning started there since i was running to the toilet a lot of times during the evening. But the highlight of the day was seeing the different colourful costumes the children were wearing that day. PLUS, Jamie was nice enough to lend me one of her sari to wear for the day. :) *heehee* I kept tripping over the material since it was so long and made me waddle like a duck most of the day. Heh. Will leave you with some photos from the day... :)

Renee and Me. Wearing a sari meant you would be showing off your midriff but mine is a spare tire so no showing there. :P (Left)
Yeah, couldn't resist a self portrait in class. (Right)

  • Heheh... okay, call me biased. And nothing against the ladies in the photo, but can't beat the shot that inspired it. The only problem is that you weren't in it! Terence's version didn't quite cut it either. =P Aiyah, it's really one of the better shots I've taken... ever.

  • *grin* Well, they always say nothing is better than the original. Which is so true in this case. :)
